Show Team Rules and Regulations
Below is a list of rules and regulations for all Show Teams in NBTA. This includes Pom Pon teams, Dancelines, and Cheerleading teams. The first section of the rules applies to all categories of Show Teams. Below that you will find rules specific to each category.
I. General rules for All Show Teams:
1. Age divisions- Average Age for the Whole Team.
Kinder 0 - 7.99
Primary 8 - 10.99
Junior High 11 - 13.99
Senior High 14 - 17.99
College 18 - 24.99 All members must be attending a college, univeristy or professional school.2. Age- A contestant's age on September 1, 2008 determines Contest age until September 1, 2009.
3. Size of Teams
Small 4 - 8
Large 9 or more4. Time Limit
2:00-3:00 minutes. Timing begins with the first note of music and ends with the last note of music.5. Music
A Show team's performance is accompanied by recorded or taped music of their own choice.
6. Size of Competition Floor
Full-Size basketball court- 50' X 84'
7. Special Effects
No scenery or backdrops
No props
No pyrotechnics, or flamable materials
8. Entrance and Exit
Teams will enter competition floor from the far boundary line directly across from the judge's table. They may position themselves anywhere they choose on the competition floor before the music starts. Entrance may be done with or without music. Entrances without music will be noted by not scored until music begins.
Teams will exit to the judge's right to leave the comptetion floor. Exit may be done with or without music.
Each member may enter and exit with or without equipment in hand. Any equipment set up on the floor must be used at some time during the perfomance.
Removing of equpiment must be done in a quick fashion at the conclusion of the performance, after the exit.9. Safety First Rule
The following Gymnastics stunts are NOT ALLOWED in ANY team or individual event in NBTA
Aerials
Walkovers
Cartwheels
Butterflies
Somersaults
Cheerleding-type body mounts and body tosses and also not allowed. An illegal mount is defined as any body toss or form that is two stories or more in height. A story is defined as a person's height.
Penalty for any of the above moves is disqualificationII. Pom Pon Team Specifics- All General Rules in Section I apply, in addition to these listed below. A Team's performance shall display the ability to use pom pons with precision and grace combining the changing of floor patterns, group designs and dance steps for maximum audience appeal.
1. General Rules Team members are allowed to ground pom pons during any part of the routine, but the use of pom pons is necessary to fulfill the requirments of the routine.
2. Judging- Teams will be judged on the following with points being the maximum awarded for each category
Routine content- 20 points
Teamwork- 20 points
Production- 20 points
Technique and quality of performance- 20 points
Appearance, Showmanship, Presentation- 20 points
3. Penalties
Dropped equipment- 0.2 per incident
Unison/out of step- 0.2 per incident
Undertime and/or overtime- 0.1 per second
Loss of balance- 0.1 per incident
Fall- 0.2 per incident
Incorrect entrance or exit- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Crossing the boundary line during the performance- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Any person on the competition floor illegally- 2.0
Use of scenery or backdrops- 2.0III. Danceline Team Specifics- All General Rules in Section I apply, in addition to these listed below. A Team's performance shall display the ability to dance with uniformity in style, precision, and grace using changes in floor patterns, group design, and changes of pace for maximum audience appeal. Team should get into the style of dancing, not only using feet and legs but also using the upper body and facial expressions. The goal of the danceline should be to execute a precision routine of intricate footwork, legwork and body work.

Dance-routine content- 20 points
Teamwork- 20 points
Production- 20 points
Technique and quality of perfomance- 20 points
Apperance, Showmanship, Presentation- 20 points
2. Penalities
Unison/out of step- 0.2 per incident
Undertime and/or overtime- 0.1 per second
Loss of balance- 0.1 per incident
Fall- 0.2 per incident
Incorrect entrance or exit- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Crossing the boundary line during the performance- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Any person on the competition floor illegally- 2.0
Use of scenery or backdrops- 2.0IV. Cheerleading Team Specifics- All General Rules in Section I apply, in addition to these listed below. A Team's performance shall display the ability to use body and voice with precision and grace combining the changing of floor paterns, group design, and vocal cheers for a maximum audience appeal.
1. Judging- Teams will be judged on the following with points being the maximum awarded for each category
Routine content- 20 points
Teamwork- 20 points
Production- 20 points
Technique and quality of perfomance- 20 points
Apperance, Showmanship, Presentation- 20 points
2. Music
Teams may use music for a portion of their overal routine. The maximum amount of time that music may play is 1 and a half minutes of the total time.3. Penalties
Dropped equipment- 0.2 per incident
Unison/out of step- 0.2 per incident
Undertime and/or overtime- 0.1 per second
Fall- 0.2 per incident
Incorrect entrance or exit- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Crossing the boundary line during the performance- 0.1 per individual or 2.0 for entire team
Any person on the competition floor illegally- 2.0
Use of scenery or backdrops- 2.0
